Several bug fixes were made in both parts and also added several new steels to knife steel database. Steel analyzer graph builder had some usability improvements too.

Finally, after almost 5 weeks of hard work the project is finished. Well, at least part I, or version 1. Knife steel database, with 120 most popular knife steels and other alloys is live. Lots of interactivity features, you can display data using various sorting and select criteria. Also, the steel analyzer graph builder is ready. Select several (up to 7) steels in the database and click Graph button and you'll get the nice bar graph, where the element bars are grouped together, so you can see easily what's there, how much and so on.

I've had it for quite some time now. Haven't used much, but still, managed to play with it few times. Designated fighter, but IMHO works well as a hunting or utility knife too. That and it looks very sexy too.

Javascript troubles

Well, got stuck with interactivity on knife steel db. GO figure, I didn't think tooltips would take this long, but things are complicated. Multiple browsers, old browsers, whole shabang. Really hate all that. On the other hand, may be it was time I made a neat library for my site to do all that. Tired...

It's alive :)

Well, my Pio VSXis alive after all. Disconnected cable from the center speaker shorted and that's what caused the receiver to turn of as soon as the input was to center channel. Go figure. Interestingly that only happened with the DVR, neither PS3 nor Xbox 360 had that effect, just center was muted... On the knives related note, interactive knife steel database project coming to an end...

Receiver went belly up

Shish :( My 2 years old Pioneer VSX-84TXSi kicked the bucket yesterday. To be precise 2 front channels. It's been so long since I've watched TV in non surround, didn't notice how much better it was compared to TV speakers. Now for the repairs... Sux, big time...

Added and corrected missing specs for couple dozen existing reviews. Added around 15 new empty review files, for the upcoming reviews, but they do have knife stats :) and I wont' forget to publish the reviews that way. Well, now I do need to sketch out the new outline for the makers indexes, because as it is now it's over the page. Too little time...

Decided to sharpen a few Busse knives on Japanese synthetic whetstones. After all, I haven't sharpened them on the stone, mainly sandpaper and diamond benchstones. Well, the results are pretty nothing short of spectacular. Very nice, deep mirror polish and needless to say very, very sharp edges. I've planned to sharpen Competition Grade Hell Razor and the Nuclear Muskrat. Razor received just polishing on Naniwa Chosera 10K stone and Muskrat went from King 1200 to Aoto 2K, then Naniwa 5K and Naniwa 10K. Since I was in the mood and things worked well, I've touched up Kobayashi Suminagashi Nakiri too. It didn't really need sharpening, but still now it's sharper. As usual the whole thing ended with 0.5mic and 0.25mic diamond crystal loaded strops and then stropping on the plain leather.

Because I have finished separate article about steeling and its effects Knife Steeling And Stropping, What They Really Do, I've overhauled the steeling rod reviews page which used to contain parts of the new article. Now, it's more organized, article has a lot more detail and relevant photos, while reviews are just what they're supposed to be, reviews ;)
