Since I have switched to 270mm gyutos I have not used kumagoro gyuto almost 9 months. 2 days ago I did the usual, 1.5 hour long salad cutting session with it. It was different, that I can say for sure. The knife still feels very nice, but now 240mm blade was less convenient than the usual 270mms. I worked a little bit slower in the beginning, mainly because I was raising my elbow higher for rocking motion, felt like I did something wrong. Eventually I moved to nakiri style cutting. Well, I still can use it :) But extra 30mm does make a difference.

All the static data is now in status urls and that also opens possibility for caching it and thus increasing response speed for static data and reducing the load on my server. Still lots to implement in terms of caching, but base is there :)

Very tedious and boring work to be honest. Still, gotta do it. Knife reviews are done. Now you can access reviews in appropriate folder by typing maker name in the url as a directory... I'll have to figure out how to convert steels in steel composition graph and later nukes database.

More alloy names from Doc Naka's source. This time new names wer eadded for the following steels: AISI M35 tool steel, Hitachi HAP40 steel, Hitachi HAP50 steel. Last two are interesting. Both very good steels made by Hitachi using PM tech. I thought they were Hitachi proprietary, but no, HAP40 is made by many Japanese companies and by Bohler-Uddehoolm. HAP50 is made by fewer companies, but still, it's not proprietary.

As before the most noticeable improvements were in the knife steel composition chart, steel comparison graph and Japanese knife type database. Those are request heavy parts, so that was desired and expected :)

Thanks to the new name source, courtesy of DrNaka of Foodie forums, I was able to add over a dozen new names for the existing alloys, which includes: AISI M2 tool steel, AISI D3 tool steel, AISI W1 tool steel, and good old, super popular AISI D2 tool steel. D2 remains the champion in the charts with 42 names for now.

Javascript error was causing all of the names in suggest list being copied into the search input control. Interestingly, code worked correctly in Firefox, but was bogus in both, Chrome and MSIE. Well, all ok. in all 3 now.

Moving static content to separate domains and parallelizing things as I can. DL speedof the Japanese knife style and type database improved noticeably, and more or less knife steel composition chart has improved too. I'll continue tomorrow with further optimizations. Tired...

Fixed incorrect legend string generation in single alloy display mode. Now a) correct number of zeros is displayed depending on the value and in the ranges from 0 to n.nn zero isn't omitted anymore. Second, and I figure more convenient is that if you select something in autosuggest and hit Enter it will first set that selection, i.e. copy selection into the search input box and only then execute builder. Before selection was ignored and builder was executed ignoring it, which was troublesome, as you'd have to select the name using mouse or tab key and then click Enter...

Finally got the precise composition from Cotdt, in turn he got from the supplier, so it's good. Click to see the updated CPM S35VN steel composition.
