VG-XEOS(Takefu) - Not exactly a new steel, VG XEOS First appeared in public forums around 2022. According to Takefu, this is a rebalanced evolution of the well known Takefu VG-10 steel. Highlights include decreased Carbon and increased Chromium content. Obviously, more Chromium, with less Carbon would result in increased stain resistance, and also worth mentioning Molybdenum in the composition also helps to some extent with pitting resistance. Overall, according to Dr. Larrin's tests, VG XEOS performed close to Takefu VG-10 steel. Depending on your environment and use patterns increased stain resistance might be desirable. Stated max hardness from Takefu is 63HRC. However that seems to be a real max value, and Larrin did state in his article he couldn't achieve 63HRC, 62HRC being his max. Given his experience, expertise and equipment, I am skeptical that many custom makers will get 63HRC out of this, let alone production knives. 60-61HRC would be what production knives will be. For the record, composition as shows is a mix of what Takefu states, for some elements, those stated as ranges, and the exact values appear to be coming from Spyderco lab tests. Think of it as Spyderco being nice and filling in the blanks :)
