Wolfram Special(?) - Relatively new steel, first appeared in 2023-2024. Used by several knifemakers in Europe. Simple Wolfram(W) alloyed steel, with trace amounts Manganese(Mn) - 0.24% and Chromium(Cr) - 0.43% and Silicon(Si) - 0.20%. It's quite pure steel, specs indicating Sulfur(S) - 0.016% and Phosphorus(P) - 0.012%. Obviously, actual composition values are not precise to the fractional parts, it's an average. I'm trying to find out who makes it and may be actual specs with it, what we have is a target average clearly. All I have so far, is that the steel is made in Sheffield, UK. Still, it's a decent looking steel based on its composition and as expected capable of achieving high working harness. Stated 64HRC as optimal for kitchen knifes and obviously, light use, high performance cutters in general. Chromium is in trace amounts, won't make it stainless.
Closest analog I can find in the knife steel database is the well known Hitachi Aogami 1 steel. Wolfram Special has a bit less Carbon and a bit more Wolfram(Tungsten). Considering respective molar masses, I think 0.15% 0.1-0.2% difference in Carbon would have bigger impact than 0.5% difference in Wolfram. However, all else considered, heat treatment & blade geometry are far more important when the compositions are this close.
